5 Amazing Islands You Have Never Heard Of

We all dream of an island get away.

Sandy beaches, tropical waters, cocktails and seclusion.

With a combined total of over 12 million tourists a year visiting the popular islands of Hawaii and Bali, your dreams of getting away from it all may be a little ambitious if you book the regular island getaway.

Luckily for you iland Co has found 5 amazing islands from around the world that most people have never heard of.

 Song Saa, Cambodia

Situated in the stunning waters of the Gulf of Thailand, Song Saa means “ The Sweethearts” in Khmer. This aptly describes the two islands that make up this breathtaking oasis and only luxury island resort in Cambodia.

Not only does this place look incredible, but they have their own NGO which works to protect the local community, culture and environment.

Staniel Cay, Exuma Cays, Bahamas

250 miles of southeast of Florida, Staniel Cay is protected by the Bahamas National Trust. With under 150 local residents and an area of less then 2 square miles this island has plenty of seclusion.

If you get bored of frolicking in the clear azure tropical waters, you can always take a trip to some great nearby attractions. There’s underwater cave diving at the Thunderball Grotto and for the really adventurous swimming with Pigs at Pig Beach

Lastovo Island, Croatia

Catching the ferry to one of Croatia’s outermost islands puts you straight into “fjaka”. In Dalmatia this phrase is more than a word but rather a way of life. A state of mind where you want for nothing and do nothing but take life in, one relaxed moment at a time.

The draw cards of this unspoilt island are diving and sailing in the beautiful Med all finished off with amazing food and wine. With over 46 vineyards in the area, there’s plenty of vino to choose from.

Fernando de Noronha, Brasil

Technically an archipelago rather than one island, Fernando de Noronha is around 220  miles off the Brazilian coast in the Atlantic Ocean.

Due to its diverse and delicate ecosystem the whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and visitors are highly restricted. No millions of tourists here!

The area is famous for it’s undeveloped beaches and warm, clear waters filled with sea turtles, reef sharks and dolphins.

Con Dao, Vietnam

A 45-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City, The Con Dao Islands are home to the luxurious Six Senses Con Dao.

Once a prison island for political prisoners, the island is now known for its astounding  natural beauty. It is an area covered in extensive coral reefs, forested hills and the national park is home to some of Vietnams most important sea turtle nesting sites.
